Causal Loop Diagrams

Causal Loop Diagrams (CLDs) are a way of making feedback visible. They help us see
how actions and consequences circle back on one another, reinforcing or constraining
behaviour over time.

Rather than explaining events through linear cause and effect, CLDs draw attention
to structure — the patterns of interaction that generate persistent outcomes in
organisations, policies and social systems.

In our work, CLDs are used as thinking and learning artefacts. They support shared
sense-making, surface assumptions and make complex dynamics discussable without
pretending that they can be predicted or solved.
